This is defo the wrong forum, but there may be someone with knowledge....

In our club, we're putting up 4" box galvanize posts for electricity. We'd like to put some curtesy lights to light up the footpath. Not like on normal marina posts where they're on top, these will be mounted vertically on the post.

Anyone here know of anything? I'm not finding anything online but i'm probably not searching the right keywords.

Marina bollards are a very expensive way of supplying sockets and lighting.
They are badly designed from a service point of view .
I've changed and repaired many . The newer the design the worse they seem to be.
I would be looking at led stand alone lighting as the ones fitted around marina walkways are affective and last well. It always seems to be the drivers that fail rather than the led itself but the drivers are cheap to replace

A photo of the post would be good but you will have be careful where you mount lights , ie trolleys

Basically we're making the bollards out of this, 4" x 4" box galvanize.

We're a club, not a marina... no trollies!

Basically looking for a light that we can mount on this, with a built-in photo-cell. It doesn't need to flood an area, just act as a curtesy light along the path incase anyone walking there at night.

Unless I’m missing something, why not a bog standard contract led bulkhead light w/sensor mounted low? I have them outdoors for path lighting, tick away in the background impervious to weather. I assume they have the relevant IP rating.

You're dead right. I'd just like to find something with a built-in photo-cell for convenience.

Yes your missing something they need to be down lighters, otherwise you are blinded by the light and can't see the walkway. Our marina made this mistake and had to replace over 30 lights

The ones my sparky installed are PIR which. as I understand it, are ipso facto photocell. They only come in at night and with movement. I don’t think they are anything special, from one of the local wholesalers.

Yup, needs to be down-lights.... not having any luck!

Fair point; however I have these on narrow paths, roughly knee level, and they are not in any way blinding.

As above, I have these on narrow paths at knee level and no issue; a glow that lights the area but is not blinding. Why not try one and see if it works for, you? Nothing ventured...

Worst case, winter job, get a club member to fabricate hoods for the top part.

That looks like what we'll do - try them and see how we get on. Worst case, make a cover for the top.

They're going to be mounted approx. 2ft of the ground so I don't see an issue with blinding people.

Found an Irish supplier (but doesn't sell online, so e-mailed them) selling bulkead LED, 7W, with a photo-cell... so might be sorted. That said, if anyone knows of a product, please share!

Hi. I know you said you're not looking for an all in one solution but....

I live on a river and had a Rolec Quantum pedestal installed around five years ago - just looking through my old emails I see it cost £407. For that I got 2 x 16a sockets, a water hose connector and hose hook, a light, and RCBO fuse things - and something which has worked faultlessly since. It does flood occasionally where I live, and the water level has risen probably 30cm up the pedestal - fortunately though all the connections for the unit are towards the top of it which meant that it's never blown!

They might not be the prettiest solution, but my thought was that if they're good enough for marinas etc..........

(photo below is obviously a photo from their website not from my installation!)
