any forumites been/are there this summer. Thinking of taking boat there as its a great place for messing about in RIB and not very far with some friends who have never been at sea on a mobo etc. However local papers say water has gone a bit green because of fertiliser run off. Local mayors say all is OK, but don´t want to waste my time if its gone a bit ickky.

It's very green, the story seems correct regarding the fertiliser aggravating algae growth - apparently the farmers are facing prosecution. People are in the sea, it's been signed off as safe but doesn't look at all appetising for swimming. Not sure if it's part of the same issue but the upside is zero jellyfish. Ironically the med-side is a clear as I have ever seen it. if you pick a calm day day perhaps mar menor for messing with the Rib and lunch and med for swimming.
 
I have never heard of the mud thing, whats that all about.
We are in Torrevieja, any bay that faces southish are usually pretty good or the south west side of the various islands along the coast
Cabo Roig near the marina is very very clear water and good sand for anchoring. Loads of fish come and shelter from the sun under your boat.
Just outside Torrevieja harbour near the sea wall and the big beach, again good sand holding
Bay of Santa Pola the north end
Tarbaca Island pick the side with the flatest water but watch the wind in the afternoon, lots of sea grass so use an anchor that will dig into it.
If you go up past alicante, the bays with altea, moriara and javea all have some good spots at the northern ends.
 
Calpe marina is a very nice place to spend a day or two, excellent restaurant in the marina and loads to choose from just meters away.

many thanks for the recommendations, tried most but not Cabo Roig so will give that a try. We are heading to Torrevieja at the end of next week, unfortunately for us the kids love the fun fare !!
 
The "mud thing" is at Lo Pagan, near to San Pedro del Pinatar. At the end of the season the place is absolutely swamped with pensioners from all over Spain. They visit to cover themselves with mud from the salt lakes which are reputed to have health giving properties. The area around Torrevieja is said by the World Health Organisation to be one of the healthiest places in the World to live because of the salt lakes and the atmosphere it creates. The mud use is all pert of the same thing. My boat is currently moored in San Pedro de las Salinas so I know the area well. Am back there next Monday then off to Ibiza for a fortnight.
The area around Cabon Roig is good if the sea is calm and there a number of marinas along that coast, including Torrevieja which are good.
 
Any tips on where exactly is the best spot to anchor at Cabo Roig ? Close to the bay at poss or west of that westerly mini sea wall ?
 
Hi, just anchor outside of the bay. There are usually a few boats there, and there is a line of bouys to stop you from going further in. The only thing you have to watch is if there is a swell. It makes it most uncomfortable. You can go into the marina free if you wish to eat in the Restaurant ,which is very good.

We will be in torre on the 5th October and will be down San Pedro for the mud but ,have you noticed t seen people in the salt lake in torre doing the same kashurst try it with swimbo mine does not look a day over 55 saying that she isn't ah well

I tried the mud all over (almost) at Lo Pagan a few years ago, it's great for your skin, feels lovely afterwards but you stink of sulphur for 3 days (I did the same thing at Espalmador too, that was just as good but wasn't so smelly)
