I'm still a bit of a tallow and leadline man, so excuse my ignorance on electronic navigation questions.
If I buy Maptech charts on CD, I understand that they will only work with one computer. Is that so?
If true, that's no problem and I can see why they do it.
BUT, if I want to sell the Cds legitimately as second-hand, will it be possible to do that? I'm off to a once-in-a-lifetime spot and I doubt I shall ever need the CDs again. It would be nice to get back some of the cost, and offer someone else a bargain. Can I do that?

Probably better directed to Maptech themselves ...

You can actually register the software twice without human intervention ... but if like me you change your laptop (or just the HD) more often than your underpants (No I haven't got dirty undies! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) then all you have to do is pick up the phone and call them to register it on a new unit.
For me it isn't a problem as I do have a legitimate excuse ... the HD has failed so it was replaced ... I'm not sure if you are entitled to sell the licence on though.

Our GPS group has Maptech guy as member and he answers all nec.

Maptechs policy unfortunately is they regard there software as non-transferrable. But many poeple do sell on - but to get the code from Maptech - you have to cheat and use original sellers ID and say that you have changed PC etc.

OK - its actually against EU guidelines which actually allow secondhand software to be passed on as long as no copies are kept etc. and all original stuff is passed over - first persons installation removed etc.

That is the info that was passed to us on the group.

No, the Maptech website Electronic registration will allow you to have two computers. I have.
You have to generate a code for each first and then input the code that the website returns. The default allowance is two machines.
In certain circumstances they will allow you to run it on three computers I understand, but you will need to phone them up to get that priveledge.

You dont say if you already have the plotter program or not.
If you havent yet bought it with the charts you would probably be best to wait, as Maptech have a new product coming out during the spring called Chart Navigator Pro, which will in all liklihood supercede Offshore Navigator.
It does far more than OSN and is a pleasure to use.

Maptech's BSB4 encrypted charts will also work with other programs:
viz..
Maxsea (Version 10.2.x.x and up)
Nobeltec Admiral 7/VNS7 (version 7.188 and up, or earlier with a patch)
Euronav Seapro.

However some of the supplementary features like Tides and Currents, photo's and services information may not be available on these programs.
