Love posts like this. Two of my boats and details listed below. Should be known that the below is taken from pin point accurate ecu given data to smart craft instruments and gps speeds.
Campion Chase performance edition
18ft stepped hull with pad
1380 kgs dry
300ish HP V8 MPi merc with cam and Corsa full system
Cruising speed 25-28mph @2200/2300 rpm
About 1 litre of fuel per mile at cruise
Similar consumption at about 1100/1200 rpm and 6mph
Full throttle, depending on what prop is on that day is around 63-67 mph gps, fuel consumption.....lots !
Fletcher 19 GTO sports cruiser
New style Mercury 115hp 2.1l command thrust
Approx 1100/1200kgs I think
Cruise speed 24-27 mph at approx 3500-3700 rpm
Incredibly managed 1.6/1.7 litres per mile at the above. Can’t tell you how efficient it is.
Max speed is around 42-44 mph gps at around 6000ish rpm. 20” enertia prop.
Other boat is a classic CVX16 with a monster V6 merc 2 stroke....let’s not go there with fuel consumption, haha.
Guy near me just bought nice Glastron 27 with 250hp Gasoline job in it ..... he's wondering how much that engine would guzzle !! He's motor mechanic - so I think it will not be long before he swaps it out for a diesel or gas job !!
1. Boat model - Southerly 46 RS
2. LOA - 14m (46ft)
3. Displacement in actual use (guess if not known ... good region is 1.25x spec'd weight) Light ship 12.7 tons, Cruising ~ 15 tons
4. Engine make and model - Yanmar 4JH4E
5. Single or twin engine boat - single
6. HP each engine - 55hp max, 50hp continuous, at shaft, from data sheet.
7. Size of fuel tank (litres) - 390 L
8. Consumption at cruise setting per hour average in litres 2.5 L , in flat water.
9. Cruise speed - 7 knots
10 RPM if known ~ 1900rpm
11. Spare fuel carried if any. zero
12. Remarks such as engine under or overpowered etc. Max consumption ? any info that felt relevant. Max consumption 11L per hour at 9.5knots (about max hull speed), flat out at 2900rpm. 3 blade Max prop.
Our old boat - figures taken from our Round Britain cruise 2015, when we motored 230 hrs, which was half of the time we were at sea. Hull was clean:
Boat, Sadler 29 bilge keel
LoA, 8.7 m
Displacement, around 4.5 t
Engine, Beta 25 (new at the beginning of 2014), shaft drive
Single engine
HP - 25
Fuel tank ~100 L
Consumption, 1.3 L/h (inc in and out of harbours, as well as motoring longer passages)
Cruise speed, 5 kts
RPM, ~2200
Spare fuel - 5 L
Prop - featherstream 3 blade, 16", pitched so we got 3400 rpm max, - not quite 3600 rmp max
Our new boat, bought spring 2016, from log, fuel and engine hrs kept over the past 4 yrs, ~300 engine hrs:
Boat, Sadler 290 bilge keel
LoA, 8.9 m
Displacement, I'd guess 5 - 5.5 t
Engine, Yanmar 3YM30, sail drive
Single engine
HP - 29
Fuel tank ~65 L
Consumption, 1.66 L/h (inc in and out of harbours, as well as motoring longer passages)
Cruise speed, 5 - 5.5 kts (depends how clean the hull is)
RPM, ~2400
Spare fuel - 20 L
Prop - Volvo 2 blade folding (16 x 13 I think)
