I've found a manual for the Perkin 400 series here:

However, the data doesn't match the D2-40. The 400 series engine rated at ~30KW (~40bhp) has a much larger swept volume, approx 2.2L for the 400 series and approximately 1.5L for the D2-40.
So although the engine looks similar it's not close enough.
I'm going to the Boat Show tomorrow, I'll ask Volvo Penta for a workshop manual ..... it'll be interesting to see what reply I get.
