can anyone give me the name(s) of manufacturers of manual vertical winches

Lewmar used to make the anchorman which was available as manual or powered, iand was a vertical windlass. It can be bought with a drum, or as the gypsy unit only for the chain (although gypsy is supposed to cope with rope and chain)
This does not appear on the new web site, but should be available in a swindlery still.

You will find the anchorman still in the chandlers. To get more info, you can download the manual from the Lewmar website (support). I believe the going price is around £300 for the gipsy only model, slightly more for the gypsy/drum model.
