Man overboard - and the answer is:

Chellers already had a 6:1 pulley system with clutch.

I know it is unpopular to revive old threads for some reason but this thread has loads of good info in. So at risk of getting in trouble I am reviving it!!

What I would like as I am a beginner is instructions on how to make one of these pully system with suggestions for parts etc. I can't seem to google a noddy guide to making a "Handy Billy" or whatever you want to call it. I would like to make one of these as having one seperate to the mainsheet system seems like a good idea to at least have some idea of how you would retrieve a MOB!

Any takers for a dunces guide??

And I just realised this is in the East Coast forum so apolgies again as I post a link to it in the main forum!!

No problem awakening this sort of old thread, may even spur some on to do it all again when the weather improves

It looks just like a mainsheet arrangement but used the other way up. Jimmy Green sells them made up

but I made mine from bits bought on ebay.

Brings back memories - we dispelled some myths about what we all thought we'd do and found out what actually worked - although we were moored and in flat water. Thoroughly recommend the exercise.
