A 30mt Explorer sounds a substantial boat? so you might not be on the right forum for info on such a trip? Doubt many people on here have been that way..
You could look Sailing Anarchy. Likely more will have been in that area and have good advice or at least strong opinions..

Not suggesting that peeps on here don't have big boats, just not what the OP has..

Not many pleasure boats go that way due to the pirates in the area in the north west Indian ocean.

Most are on passage going west come round the cape of good hope. Very pleasure boats do a east to west passage anyway s if against the prevailing winds.

Only big commercial ships use the suez canal these days.

That would be a target for pirate.

If you did go that way you would need armed guards with rocket launchers om watch 24/7.

As someone who was attacked and robbed by pirates in the Gulf of Aden I think you should be very careful indeed.

Djibouti is the last safe port coming down the red sea and is next door to Somalia more or less. Although it is French there are very large American and coalition forces there and frankly you need some sort of escort as far as the Maldives... Difficult because there are not many yachts going in that direction. Out of Oman there area coalition forces that 'look after' groups of yachts on passage to the Red Sea but I am not sure it is possible in the other direction.

I got away without loss of life in my boat Bambola and only suffered loss of money and equipment - vhf, radar, gps, wrist watches, money etc but in the same year a French skipper was shot and some yachties have been held for ransom.

Personally I would not risk it again... via Panama (see my video :) ) to NZ then Phuket may be longer but a hell of a lot safer IMO..

Maybe paint it battleship grey, write something like P123 on the side and stick a fake gun on the front .
Yeah. That would do the trick?
Thing is that I have three tours as anti piracy force so I have that part covered.
Transport on ship from Palma to Sri Lanka is about 125000e
It's about the same as a trip through the suez with the actual yach and security personnel. So it will be the boring solution.
Thank you and you others that took your time to answer.
Be safe?
