I was in Maldon yesterday, by car, doing a recce for a possible trip later in the year. I notice that the quay is under repair and, while this is ongoing, they are using the visitor's pontoon for the barges. Although they are trying to accommodate visitors as well, it sounds impractical to visit while this is going on.

Does anyone know how long the quay repair is likely to take?

My neighbour (Maldon resident who always knows what is going on) says the council haven't got the money to do anything beyond stabilising it by parking that flooded lighter there, this year. She reckons it will be a year or two yet!

I think they tried to dredge around the quay a bit in the winter, which might have led to the collapse.

News item dated 24th March on the East Coast Pilot website...
Didn't notice the barges using the visitor pontoon last week when I was up there. Suggest you phone the River Bailiff and ask, although the news item above reports that he did suggest trying elsewhere.
As well as the Marinestore pontoons (Shipways Boatyard) you could also try Hedgecock's yard.
