I do the master cabin in our SO 45.2 (it's the model with the bonking mirror as standard) and have to make the bed by starting at the head end (no pun intended) and then work down the bed tucking in etc.; no side access space.

I have to steel myself up for this mammoth task knowing the cursing as it never works first time and will require several remake attempts, the criticism I will receive later from SWMBO for my pathetic attempts at hospital corners and woe betide me if on her side the corner sheet comes untucked over the next few days.

I am about to attack the bed in about 30 mins time so may well not be on the forum until early evening; in fact I'm going to have another drink before I start.

How easy/difficult is it for you?

Different approach - we use very large sheet sleeping bags and then a duvet/fleece blanket/nothing depending on temperature.

The sheet sleeping bags were made by sewing up two sides of a king size flat sheet, leaving about a metre or so unsewn at the open end on one side. Very easy to get into, no feelings of being constricted as in smaller sleeping bags and takes just seconds to lay them out or fold up.

And yet another:
Duvet( with cover) underneath as bottom sheet, duvet or two duvets on top acc to season. Why be uncomfortable?
The big plus IMO aside from being quick to remake is that all duvets can be effortlessly hung out on the boom for an airing then dropped back through respective hatches and remade almost daily.
And washable duvets and coves a big plus too.
I would recommend the Asda marine furnishings range.:)

Get slightly stretchy fitted sheets from most major bedding shops and they cost a few quid. Only takes a few minutes for even the most inaccesable corners.

sheet protocols ..

we put 4 sets of bottom sheets on each berth at a time. also 4 pillowcases on each pillow. when it's time for a new set of sheets , the top layer comes off and goes to the laundry bin. that way we have a lot less time being mizzerable putting sheets on in the very confined v - berth with no walkaround room..the bottom sheets are queen size flat sheets with elastic straps sewn diagonally on the corners , not fancy fitted sheets..

The duvets and pillow cases are fairly straightforward i.e as per a normal bed. The bottom sheets are a different matter as there are five sections to the mattress - two long rhomboid-ish mattresses plus three triangle-y bits in the middle.

I bought plain white cotton flat sheets and then gave then to my clever and adept sister-in-law who made tubular bottom sheets for us. It is a bit of a wrestle but the idea is that the mattresses simply slide into and out of the tubes....a bit like skinning a sausage but on a bigger scale?!!

The concept is a good one but then you have to factor in the space that you yourself take up and it all gets a bit of a squeeze.

I find that keeping the heads door and the hatch open helps.

I've just re-read the above and it looks like the makings of a scene from Mr. Bean !!

We got pillows; 2 for her and 2 for me; so I put the clean slips on and put them on the bedhead and she then says "why you got one of MY pillows?"

Jeez; one pillow looks just like another to me!

No, no! I have to have MY downy one on the top - wouldn't sleep otherwise. Totally understand that.

Boat Bedding

We have fitted sheets and duvets and covers for 'best' - haven't used them yet!
For comfort we have found a king sized cotton sleeping bag opened out on the bunk makes a very comfortable base layer, with a sheet on top., then a normal duvet over us - or not - as required.

Recently found washable pillow protectors in Ikea - did not know such things existed - but we have bought a few - great idea.

You didn't read the manual? That's not a bonking mirror. It's there so you can see properly to do your hospital corners!
