As a matter of interest we are directly funding a water pump supply for an African village as well trying to lobby the big guns at the G8.

Agree with you about Africans 95% are genuine people .

the age of selling tractors with expensive spares is gone replaced by schemes which allow them to be self sufficient and to make things with cheap materials available locally

In Iraq, they've removed the plague and installed cholera. So no, I don't think that we should reinstate Saddam, but neither do I think that the Iraqi people are better off.

Luckily we stopped all those weapons of mass destruction, though.

They source everything they can in country.

Little things like building a wall can generate lots of economic benefits to material suppliers, hauliers, labourers and tradesmen.

But education is the thing. Fresh water collection was such a time consuming activity in some villages that women and children spent up to 40% of their time doing it. Put a well in and before you know it they're looking to learn new things or develop a new revenue stream for the village.

In the end though the saviour of Africa will be people not governments.
