mainsheet \'horse\'

Hi,

Further to my previouse post regarding fitting a small outboard directly to the transom of my dinghy, it has been suggested that I could use a rope 'horse' to rig the mainsheet onto which would prevent it fouling the outboard. I am new to sailing and I'm not sure how this works. Could anyone explain/expand on this?

Re: mainsheet \'horse\'

a horse is normally a rail which runs parallel to the top of the transom. you can also use rope, a fairly slack line fixed at either side of the transom, the lower end of the mainsheet tackle attaches to a block which runs along the horse.

it will get your mainsheet clear of the tiller and other such encumbrances. you will lose a little in sail control but it only really matters if you're racing.

all laser 1's have this arangement so if you spot one out there have a look.
