I could not agree more Extravert. They are not the fitting for a well found boat unless small and daysailer in very sheltered waters. I do use them for other purposes though - one use that comes to mind is on the ships cat's tether to stop him going over the side (he is still working out how to unclip it /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

Absoluteley - keel to leeward with sails sheeted home puts the guardrails underwater, then crank the keel back to weather - just like the good old 'scoop' recovery when righting a dinghy!

I have the botom end of my mainsheet on a snap shackle, not for MOB recovery but because it makes a handy crane for lifting stuff in from the dinghy.

original concept was that you up-end the main sheets when needed for use as a crane, and then you can use the jam cleats to assist in the movement. I think I am going to change to captive pin, for the speed and additional security that it gives me.
