Maiden - Tracey Edwards "new" film?

Oh one more thing. The girls seemed to have been motivated because of the terrible treatment they received by the other teams and the unenlightened press (the Guardian journalist seeming being one of the most sexist!).

However then they decided to end leg four wearing extremely sexy swimming costumes, that undermines their credibility, at that point they wanted to have their cake and eat it.

Run that by me again? First off it was pretty warm weather - do you want them wearing foulies? Secondly those swimsuits look sexy because of the bodies in them, not because of the swimsuits. But you've missed the whole point - to suggest that wearing a swimsuit undermines the treatment of them highlights exactly the problem they had. What they look like, what shape they are, what they wear is totally irrelevant to their competence as a race crew - that's the message.

She says in the film that they wore them deliberately to distract the press. They had won the previous two legs and were about to be last in this one, and they didn't fancy answering all the questions that came with that.

We saw it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. As with other forumites, my wife also wasn't very keen to see it, but afterwards thought it was really good and totally absorbing.
Disregard all the previous nonsense comments about bikinis, if you are a yachtie, and you must be if you've got this far, just go and see it and enjoy it for what it is, you won't be disappointed.

Just saw it - both great for sailing and very moving. Good Q and A with Tracy and filmmakers afterwards and my wife had a nice chat with her and got her 1990 Christmas present of the Maiden book finally signed.

That reminds me of an elderly climbing friend who disparaged women dressing up to look sexy and complained that the women were a bit slower than he wanted, while we all were walking up a winter Scottish mountain. But then had to put up with my dear Navigator wife and another female friend spending the next half hour through the snowstorm loudly discussing the best makeup to wear in blizzard conditions. Most women dont want to be men.

Fair enough - I withdraw my comment unreservedly then and my apologies to Seven Spades
