MAIB Update

Still some work to be done to get to the bottom of this, as Bedouin has summarised. The key lies in the detailed cost breakdowns provided in the Information Commissioners determination.

Provided we use the information to stay within the FOIA section 12 limit of £600 we can continue to mine the spreadsheet data in more depth via a series of requests

Very busy work wise right now but hoping to progress towards the end of next week...

The RYA are not in the business of 'rattling cages' of usurped and presumptive government i.e. the MCA and the MAIB.

They wouldn't get invited to the cocktail parties where the carve-ups are done....

....and that goes for a couple of 'establishment' journos as well!

Well said, Bill. A fertile ground for conversation over a dram this weekend, perhaps.

Judging by your comments about the RYA, I should think the reason "they" don't tell you what they are doing is because you don't really want to know!

Take red diesel as a good example. Remember that it was the RYA input that persuaded our government to negotiate the derogation in the first place. Then it was the RYA input that got the derogation extended last time around -- saving us all another five year's worth of road tax on boat fuel.

The fact that they "failed" this time doesn't mean they didn't try, any more than you could say that the paratroopers "didn't try" to capture the bridge at Arnhem. Against overwhelming odds, it was simply "a bridge too far".

And if RYA staff decline to publicly ridicule the very individuals they are negotiating with on a day to day basis, that strikes me as plain common sense.

Tim Bartlett
