Hi all, I need to replace my cockpit seats - 9mm mahogany (look?) marine ply.
Any good recommendations of where to order from?
Many thanks,
Crisp

I Have a selection of hardwood doors, rescued from skips, in my garage.

Best place to find mahogany and teak these days is skips. Best part is its free!. People don't value them at all and just throw them out.

You could also try the places that process the skip rubbish, they'll likely have stacks of them for very cheap.

Spend some time diligently removing metal screws, nails ,and tacks before cutting to size on a table saw.

It's amazing how little useable wood you get from one door though.

I got a new front door, and kept the old door and frame. When a steel frame with wooden bars that formed a "patio" across the stern on Jazzcat was damaged in a storm, the new patio was made from the best Brazilian mahogany.

BTW, when I had to make new cockpit locker lids, I used ply, but sealed the edges with hockey-stick moulding, making a drip stop that protected the edges of the ply and prevented water going into the lockers.

One final thought, if the OP's seats don't double as locker lids, Yandles sell slats in various woods that might do the job better than ply.

I would think that Mahogany (Sapele) faced ply will be not much price different to buying hardwood - marine ply is very expensive these days. I'd be tempted to buy slats or boards and make them from solid material. I agree that 9mm seems thin without support.
