Magma \'Sea Kettle\' charcoal BBQ

Anyone know where I can get hold of one of these excellent products in the UK? Tried one in the Bay of Islands and it was superb. Unfortunately Magma Products seems to only supply in the US and their European outlet is in Holland.

I personally do not know that product, but we have just bought what may be very similar, at the NEC Good Food Show.
It is called a "Cobb" and is made in South Africa by Cobb International.
Basicaly, it is two hemispheres, the bottom one (which is insulated) contains the charcoal briquettes, and a trough for the fats. A griddle type plate goes on top of that, with holes for the fat to run off & down into the well below. Then the top half is a dome with vent holes. We have tried it at home and it's great. So basically you can have this on deck without fear of setting the boat alight.
Cobb (UK) are in Aylesbury- tel 01296-681095 , or there website is:-

It wasn't cheap, we paid £60 for it at the show, I think it is normaly around £80
Have a look, it may not be quite what you are loking for, but the Cobb was bought with the boat in mind.
Cheers
Stuart

They are available in the UK but are very expensive. I believe they used to be in the Compass Marine MO catalogue, they are in the West Marine USA catalogue ($155 including the rail bracket).

If you are anywhere near Poole, we have a used one we could sell you since we went mad and bought the gas version, simply to avoid carrying the coals etc. They really are very good and on our main cruise we cook mainly on the BBQ, apart from being tasty, it doesn't heat up the cabin. We even cook full roast dinners, like roast beef, roast potatoes, roast carrots etc on ours, very easy though you do need a meat thermometer since there is no automatic temperature control.

I'm on my 3rd gas version in 10 years (mine lives permantly on the pushpit and if not covered...special cover provided, mine's is green to match the hull.....the flue where the gas comes out can rust...all the rest is stainless steel) - instant heat...great food and so easy to clean - have a look at www.magmaproducts.com in USA. Highly recommend!
