I use a purple Pilot Hi-Tecpoint V5 Extra Fine pen that my local stationer got for me. It's ok on paper charts but a bit smeary on plasticized ones such as Imray's.
I used Rotring pens for manual chart corrections when working at sea ..... ah, the good old days! They did a 0.1, 0.2, 0.3+ mm nibs and had magenta permanent ink available in refill bottles. The Edding range described above is of similar type/standard.

Re: magenta pens for charts ... professionally ...
Rotring pens were the normal item to do the job when I was correcting charts on ship. We used different colours Indian Ink. The biggest problem with the Rotring was keeping the needle "nib" from drying out ... various stands with water soaked sponges etc. were produced ... but at end of day - a 2nd Mate could always be identified by ink on his finger tips !! after cleaning his pens. I still have my Rotrings and stands ... they are expensive items and any 2nd Mate who had his own guarded them ....
Any good art shop has them ...
Later I noted that very few used Rotring and had changed to micro-tip pens - the later version of ball-points.
HAVING SPENT PART OF A MIS-SPENT YOUTH CLEANING THE CRUD AND CONGEALED INK OUT OF THOSE LITTLE SO-AND-SOS and trying to bend the little wire straight, I now prefer to keep well away from them, thankyou!

They do tend to stick in the memory !!
Other gems .... Spoon handle drilled hole in large end for drawing circles round buoys etc. Hacksaw blade for drawing the zig-zag power cables ....
The plastic template jobs from Chart suppliers .... never used one as they were cr*p ..... still are I believe.

Rotrings in garage, and ink drying in bottles since advent of Pilot Hi-Tecpoint. Rotrings best cleaned with special cleaner and an ultrasonic bath.

I used to unscrew the whole nib assembly and drop into warm water in a 35mm film container ... close and leave it till later. Then I got the pen stand ... took 4 pens in vertical slots with nibs just above a damp sponge inside the box. Keep sponge damp .. water it each day ! Fine.
