I'm looking at using a hand-held GPS such as the Magellan Meridian Marine in my Hunter 23 .

Has anyone experience of this system? I believe that it has some kind of chart type function as compared to my old Garmin system.

I bought a Meridian Colour after looking at GPS sets at the Earls Court boat show. The display is very good and shows an outline map of the coastline with all the navigation marks included. As you zoom in more detail comes into view and this can be adjusted as the screen can get very cluttered if there are a lot of navigation mark close together. It also has all main roads marked so you can use it in the car as well. When on the brightest illumination (which shows off the screen at its best) it goes through batteries very quickly, so I bought the cigar lighter socket lead and that helps.
