It was a morning to live for in Wells at 5-6am saturday, the winds were light and the sky clear then the sun came up behind the trees,it was a picture to behold as we drank our coffees,we managed to motorsail for about 20nm,then as we rounded the Nort Norfolk coast, the SE wind ended up on the bow,so sails were dropped and revs wound up,at firsit was pleasant but as the sea state grew, the waves started to break over the bow,we arrived at Lowestoft in the evening and moored.
Morning came and we set off at 6am,the forecast for a F5-6 seemed a bit over estimated at first, once past Kessingland,it started to get a bit on the rough side,it was wet wet wet, things were not too bad untill we hit orford ness, the outfalls at orford ness according to the chart are at their worse on the Ebb,we got there on the flood and it was a bit hairy,i estimate wave height to have been 6-7ft,but it was the frequency of the waves,it was very wet and bumpy, after passing the ness, the rain kicked up and visability dropped to around one mile,i could not hear anything other than static through this thick cloudy rain, eventually the deben clear water mark came to view and we atempted to sail into the deben, what a contrast to the earlier weather,we dropped out stuff at Ramsholt quay ans then moored the boat, our lift had mechanical problems so it was 10pm when we left.
It was so wet,my chartplotter packed in and the rain got through my sallopets,it was on the whole a wet, cold and miserable journey
I enjoyed it,it was not a pleasant journey but i thourougly enjoyed it,as for my crew, ill let them post
