Reading the collision thread re the 40ft boat colliding with the Bridge Bouy had me in mind of an old story from an old acquaintance of mine who now lives up in Scotland. He was taking a 40ft motor boat across Lake Erie (I think it was Erie, it was one of the great lakes anyway) when he lived and worked as a doctor in the US. The night before, he and his wife had a bit of a hooley and woke up with the mother of all hangovers. So they calculated the distance of the passage, set the speed of the boat, set the autopilot to required destination and.....went back to sleep for the entire journey, only to be woken up by an alarm clock hours later.
Seriously!
Anyone else got any mad, nutty, or Darwinian maritime tales?? The Darwin awards, by the way, are for real stories of people doing the most stupid things that result in their own injury and/or death - hence, they are not able to pass this stupity on in their genes. Self extinction, so to speak!
