MacGregor 65?

Oops... meant Sundeer. Deerfoot is another nice option

:-)
Dashew's Deerfoot, Sundeer, and Beowulf designs are super-efficient and fast, but not pretty. If you want speed, seaworthiness, comfort and really fast passages there is little to touch them, but they are not cheap. Beowulf at 78 ft is said to have once logged 32 knots - with a crew of two in a comfortable cruising boat, not a racer with a dozen gorillas on board.

There are plenty of old ex-race boats of 60-70 ft gong fairly cheaply, the problem comes when you need to pay to fix something or buy new sails, also the interiors tend to be primitive in the extreme.

Dashew's are WAY outside his budget.

The Big Mac might be fast but the interior is just not suitable for family cruising.

There are lots of Bene 50s around well within his budget. They sail reasonably well and are very comfortable family boats.

The thought of finding a suitable partner or two in order to buy a Dashew is looking tempting... I just wouldn't use it enough to justify the whole cost on my own.
