M6 bolt instead of M8 to hold Jabsco?

im curious of the consequences of this.

Its a little loose through the fitting but i can do it up tighter. would an M6 still be strong enough opposed to an M8 to take the force of the unit swaying about with someone on it?

what if i packed the hole in the unit with something like silicone and used a washer on the top to spread the load?
