Just a few cables from Boulters Lock

Forbsie met me at the marina at 1pm and we took Tahoe up to Chertsey Lock just in nice time to rendezvous with Nick and Joanne and co on Cast Off. Then MarkC turned up 'just on the off-chance' so quite a little impromptu get together in glorious sunshine although a bit breezy. First time out this season for Tahoe.
So we toodled down river in company for a while and then left them as they approached Shepperton. You can see a few pics <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.boatsontheweb.com/galleryframes.html> BoatsOnTheWeb, Photo Gallery, Chat Room

Nice clean looking boat well presented. A couple of points to make tomorrow get Nick out of the two hands on throttle habit, (pic 3) and raise the ball fender a bit for the lock. Mind you hes got a splendid array of shiny fenders, not like my old girl
Hes a bit good looking for an E****e A***t

Looking forward to the trip tomorrow

So go on, give it to me. You leave one engine reving its bollocks off, while playing with the other. Meanwhile , with other fingers up ones nose, or scratching bum! Go on, which one is it............./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Using two hands will only serve to complicate matters. The only time you need to have two engines engaged is say when spinning the boat to turn it right angles once out of your berth, to which one engages reverse on one and forward on the other, which can be acheived using one hand.

Using two tends to encourage less gentle engaging of the throttles, and overkill.

All other times like say coming along side a pontoon or alongside in a lock one usually pulls it out of gear and/or reverse two if your going two fast, then using alternate engines (i.e. one hand) on the htrottles gently bring it alongside.

At no time should the engine be "revving its bollocks off " as you so eloquently put it, if it is your doing something wrong

Just to complicate matters - I have two throttles and two gears. I need two hands to handle them 1

The throttles are right next to each other. Forward out your berth, then both to neutral, then wanna spin 90 degrees to port say, engage stb foward (tick over) then reverse port (tick over) then when your round pull port out of reverse and into forward all with one hand simple. Two hands too leads to aggressive use of the throttles. If whilst turning you need more spin adjust accordingley.

Tricky dickys finnished. anyway this is much more exiting. So, I do 90deg turn out of my along side end berth. Making sure that I dont go back much or bash boat behind. Then have to back 50 yds with wind blowing bows off so have one engine in forwards to keep bows straightish and go back with tuther. Then come to sharp turn right and then go out of marina with U turn to left. If I did it your way I'd bash every boat in the marina. Theres no time for fannying about!!

Sorry Pauline I forgot I was talking to you. Suggest you take your socks off and use your feet for tuther two........./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

All that sounds bloody marvelous. If loads of room and no wind. Yes we can light a fag and put the kettle on, in between, and put,put about at tick over.. Some time you have to be bloody agressive. Or loose it. Still never told me what you did with the spare hand, did you.............../forums/images/icons/smile.gif
