My Bavaria 32 2003 came with two genoas. One has a 4mm Luff tape, the other 5mm. I believe the previous owner used the sail with the 5mm tape.
Given that the luff groove on the furled is 3mm will the genoa with the 4mm tape be ok or is it asking for trouble? I'd prefer to us it as it has a higher clew hence better visibility forward.
If the 4mm is not ok does anyone know a rough ballpark figure for the cost to change the tape?

The correct tape size is 6mm for the 2000S. , but I guess a 5mm would be OK. Talk to your local sailmaker. Probably in the region of £150-200 to unpick the existing and fit a new tape.

I used a 5mm luff tape in a 7mm (Rotostay) furler for two seasons- was no problem. When the wind is up enough to potentially cause issues upwind, the sail will be furled a few turns anyway so highly unlikely to pop out of the groove. Downwind in a blow I just put one turn in for peace of mind if I wanted ‘all’ the headsail out. This on a 150% genny.

I replaced the line inside the tape on a headsail, unpicked the stitching, joined new to old and pulled it through. The 4mm will be fine once hoisted with some halyard tension but will probably be a pain to hoist.
