Lubricating cabin sliding door

Hi Paul, No, not had a good look at it yet but suspect lack of lubrication. Will check for other causes though.
Get it down to the Med, the heat will widen the boat, that will straighten the track - problem solved......... :triumphant:

Ps -J in post # 11 the acronym that starts in F and ends in S , i used it last week on here and got an e-mail from the "moderation team ' --it's banned they asked me to reword it .I did .

Perhaps jfm meant Fairline For Sale!!! with all the problems Pete' having.

Nah, these aren't problems, they're 'learning opportunities'. I actually think that part of the fun of owning a boat is getting to know it and fixing things yourself. If you are totally reliant on others to fix even basis stuff it's gonna cost you a lot of time and money.

Whilst I'm never going to be in the same league as many of you guys I would at least like to be able to do basic engine stuff (belts, impellors, fuel filters, etc), change bulbs, unblock the shower / loo and fix the domestic water system when I get a leak.

Pete it's nowt to do with "league " .
Some say the fixing of stuff is part of the boat owner experiance as well as the actual using the damm thing .
Maybe 50/50 ?

Been on mine 3 weeks -so far
Painted a corroded engine mount .
Re wired a duff 220 V socket in the crew cabin .
Replaced a suddenly leaky o ring on a racor T
Resealed a seeping water tank top cover .
Replaced twice ( 1st time wrong sender ) the water sender
Oh lubricated my sliding door as well used silicon spray btw , WD 40 works too ,just tried summit else .
Made a point of checking the twin disc gear box oil levels - hot and tick over -not a nice place to be in the ER when out side is 30 +
Replaced a bit of sound proofing at the back of the Geny
Found a washer on the floor of the ER -traced it to the floor soundproof support -refixed .
Replaced a chain anchor strop with tape as the two metals touching the anchor motor -was causing galvanic corossion

Next week considering polishing the Stainless steel on the Passerelle , but I won,t be asking the forum "which polish " as I have some Peek stuff -seems to work .
Measuring the fender Dia for a winter job of some new logo,d ones they say F 2 ? What ever that means .

In-between all the above use the boat .
Oh theres weed in the anchor locker --another job .

Good going.

F2 are a standard fender size but you are right to measure the circumference as it can vary depending on how they've been inflated. If you see Deleted User's boat have a look at the fender socks and let me know if you like them :).

Pete, for your info I'm pleased with the one's I got from you a year or so ago.

I suspect that the setup is the same as a Targa 31.... the bearings are standard Jack Holt mainsheet runners with recirculating acetal balls (fnarr..)and straightforward (if a little fiddly) to change. wont be damaged by the wrong lubricant. Really just need a clean track
W
Silicone spray will do the trick
Go to your nearest Tool Station cheep as chips

Well I've had about 4 different answers so it's not a no-brainer :)
P, I'm not positive about whether J meant that the no-brainer is using Silicone lubricant or not, 'cause I wouldn't use it myself, but I don't think you would wreck anything by using it, either.

What is indeed a no-brainer, beyond any reasonable doubt, is that you can safely forget any technical suggestion given by a boat broker...
...and before PYB jumps in, exceptions can exist, but they only prove the rule! :D

If not keen on using vaseline try beeswax = any furniture polish with beeswax , or candle wax, or something like Pledge .
You are almost certain to have something at home or already on the boat that will help.

Thanks, after careful deliberation (that's a joke, before JFM points it out, it's a boat not a Fabergé Egg), I'm going procure a tin of WD40's finest "Dry PFTE Spray" from Halfrauds. I'll do all the canopy poppers with it too.

I can confirm that my fender socks have survived a second winter in the Med despite my boat being squeezed in its berth like a sardine in a can by the boats on either side (too many Sq78s on my quay)

I had great success with my sliding doors after removal and cleaning the rollers with CRC Throttle body cleaner (active ingredient Acetone),not Carb cleaner (higher % of Toluene), then lubricate with WD-40 PTFE (active ingredient Heptane...aka Teflon).

Pete, have you diagnosed the problem? Is it lube, distortion, anything else?

As I think you may have suspected Paul, there is something more amiss than poor lubrication. The boat is supposed to have four runners on the two tracks. This is what they look like:

It transpires that one of them is completely missing. And of course it's the one that is right up behind the dash. Fortunately, by removing the compass, access to replace it is just about possible.

I know that the plastic pieces can be ordered from Trend but was a bit concerned that I wouldn't be able to get the metal piece. Anyhow, one of my partners was passing and he suggested that it might have dropped down into the dash. After half an hour of (blind) fishing out numerous discarded cable ties and other detritus we found the missing piece:

So all I need know if the plastic pieces from Trend which are £6 each.

Result!
