I decided to hang around last night, to wait for grockles to depart N Wales and the main road to quieten down.

Then the heavens opened up.

I didn't photograph the peak of the torrent, but the lock keepers were fighting a hard battle to keep the water level in the dock down.

Have never seen the water level so high and the Squaddie was almost in the car park.

Is that your boat in the far right corner of the first photo? The one propped up on empty beer barrels?

No so much a gin palace as a beer mansion? How long did it take you to empty them!

Either I've got a very good computer screen or you've got a very good camera!

No. Mine is on the water and the empty beer barrels are inside the boat.

That is some volume of water - They are pretty old gates - how are they coping with the pressure? That is quite something seeing the way it is flowing through - Are they opening teh gates still OK when the tide is in?

The gates are listed, as is the bridge and the entire dock...all grade II listed. In fact it is billed as the UK's only Grade II listed marina.

They deal with the pressure just fine. The chains break occasionally and parts of the gates are replaced as and when.

Fortunately We are neeps at the Moment but like most of the UK it has been raining a bit.
We always get our fair share of the stuff.
However the last few Months has seen the water table stay unusually high.
Then the recent Burst has drained down the Hills and the little stream that runs into the Dock at the Eastern end has become a River.
Happened a couple of Years ago + it was During Springs.
The Dock was built in the early 1800's and as Major Catastrophe points out it is a Listed jobbie.
The good old Tradesmen and Engineers of the Day did a brilliant job.
I,ve had a boat there on and off for about 20 years.
Tiss only the Second time I,ve seen the Dock that Full!
Quite recently the Dock was dredged, first time in My memory.
Cos some boats were touching the mud from time to time!!

Jeez that's scary.

It's sad to see all the poor people who are being badly hit in the UK with the severe flooding /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Although we are complaining about the weather over this side of the pond there are always some who are worse off.
