Lost yachts

I think you did the right thing. It was a sad story, and probably quite genuine, but we can never be entirely sure in these matters that money sent is really going to the right people. It is not totally unknown for scam artists to make money out of someone else's tragedy.

By the way, what sort of regular sailor calls 'The Saloon' in their boat 'The Lounge'?

Picky, picky - John

On our boat, the family refers to anything down below by it's 'land' name.
So, we don't have a galley, head, cabin or bed; but a kitchen, toilet, room & bed.

They may not be 'proper' sailors as you see it, but I would trust them to sail me anywhere.

Yep, when sailing with our kids we used to delight in calling the aft cabin the 'back bedroom'! Come to think of it, we also referred to the pointy end and the blunt end.

The right thing to do and carried out in the right way.

Yes, in this sad case I entirely agree. I guess the Forums would be swamped with requests for financial help if this thread was allowed to run its course. Others would certainly follow.

Sorry I didn't get back to everyone yesterday, the laptop's playing up (well, not the laptop, the ridiculous Power Book G4 adaptor that now does a passable impression of a angry electric eel).

I really appreciate the positive response, I think we all sympathise with this situation and while we'd all like to think of these forums as something of a support network, we have to be careful too.

I will let you know of any response I get as appropriate.

Thanks,
Dan

I'd certainly think about supporting someone I know and that includes a regular poster hereabouits but wasn't that the first post fromwhoever he is. I suspect also his last post.

Agree Long John. I think if a regular poster on here ended up in the same circumstances a lot of help would have been forthcoming without even being asked for.
