Not someone but something. We've all lost something into the oggin never to be seen again, well at least no1 brat has, that being my diving watch left with him for safekeeping whilst I was diving (yes I know that sounds like double dutch, but now use a computer rather than a watch).

Surfaced to see son cowering in cockpit, and my dive buddy with a big grin on his face explaining how my watch just fell off his wrist.

And no, I didn't find it, worse than looking for a needle in a haystack. Also recently lost a nice lobster which I had in a bag over the side trying to keep it fresh, if only I'd tied the knot properly............Oh how I laughed...........................

So what have you lost, the more unusual the better, and how have you tried to recover it, the funniest story will win a superb prize.

So far:Wife, kids, dog, lots of screwdrivers, petrol can with 2 gallons of fuel (b*****ks), rudder, oars, dingy, fishing rods, fishing nets, fish, outboard, fag box (3/4 full), chisel, nuts and bolts, TV aerial, plates, knife and fork, tea towel, T-shirt.

If I imagine that this lot was lost all at the same time the picture I come up with is quite funny.

Given that the only boats that I have ever been in charge of regularly were the little trout fishing boats that used to be on Queen Mother Reservoir .

I think that losing a 2-day old outboard in 30 metres of water was quite an achievement....and then realising that I only had one oar to row back to the fishing lodge..

I am WHAT I say I am

I aint lost anything but my mate used to have this south african crew member who dropped overboard the keys to the boats motorbike. Wal picked up the motorbike (no mean feat) saying we wont need this then and proceeded to chuck it overboard as well.

Needless to say the crew didnt last long after that. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

He who shall remain nameless, on a training stint in the Channel Islands managed to lose my keys overboard in St Peter Port. No spares, so no car, house, one very mad wife! Luckily the instructor, a certain MBM Cruise Director knew of a diver, who was able to come out sharpish, who found them, avoiding certain death of spouse.

I got him one of those big magnets on a line for Xmas that year.

Next question, using one of these magnets, what exciting stuff has anyone ever found?

Found

OK we've all lost something, how about what you've found. Fenders are excluded, I've got a huge collection of those.

Most unusual find so far was a floating freezer complete with plug1

In approximate chronological order

1 Pair of specs (mine)
2 Zippo Lighter
3 Another Zippo lighter
4 Another pair of specs (on second day of 3 week cruise)
5 A 3ft by 2 foot mirror (don't ask)
6 A Falcon pipe
7 Car Keys (SWMBO had spare set)
8 A Petersen pipe
9 Another Zippo lighter
10 A bucket and fender (MOB practice went bably wrong)
11 Daughters teddy bear
12 Hat
13 Pliers (Snap-On - cost a fortune)
14 2 towels, and an intimate item of ladies lingerie (washing line broke)
15 Torch
16 New bow roller
17 3 Sail battens

The list does not include sprinkling of shackles, screwdrivers and other small assorted items.

Quite proud only to have lost 1 hat a remarkable achievement I think.

Got everthing ready bait etc and decided to trail spinner from stern of boat on way out.
Get to mark.Drop anchor and go astern to bed in anchor.
Watch only rod/reel on board vanish while tangle line around prop.
fish line breaks , rod free falls into depths.
Hour to cut line hooks etc free from outdrive.
Two hour run back less than amused.

And here is the weekend weather..

Its the 3rd March I am on the visitors pontoon in Dielette and as I go to leap aboard my boat my brand new expensive Nike shades take a swim. Wel its half hour to low tide so I wait till then wuth the extended boat hook as I can just see them on the bottom.

Even with the hook fully extended and me leaning right into the icy water I still cant reach them...damn! So I get into my swimming shorts cant find wetsuit prob still at home packed away found mask and in I go....BLOOOODY HELL its so cold I am breathing ten to the dozen but still dive down and get the shades first time then straight out and into a pre heated towel...brrrrrr never been so cold.

Also lost my waterproof mobile in Albert marina and went down for that with wetsuit in July after getting bitten by three crabs I finally found it in the mud and guess hat it didnt work!!

Dom

I am boating again ;-)

In St Quay marina Rich passed my handbag down to me on the pontoon and my specs fell out into the water. He had a right go at me for being so stupid and not closing the bag properly, until he remembered he had been the last one to open it ..to put in his specs! did I laugh? However further along the harbour were a couple of divers just coming in, and not only did they speak perfect English, but promptly dived in, found the specs on the first go, and refused to take a penny for it. Some people are just born jammy.

1 Pair of waders. Left them on pontoon because they were dirty and wife had refused to wear them that night. Next morning nowhere to be seen on pontoon but were floating away happily underneath. Air was trapped in boot end and they looked like a large jellyfish.

They needed a good wash anyway.
