id like to just say here Cactus marine and Raymarine did good. I received back the one i returned (the bottom one) with cups and cups holder attached as well as a whole new separate unit (the top one). excellent service. just hope they stay on longer which ever one i install ontop of the mast again. boats coming out the water next weekend now so no rush now.

I just checked my newest one (which is down) and the cup holder span right off the shaft with no effort at all. No sign there was any threadlock on the shaft so when I replaced it I applied some medium strength gloop. From your photo there's no sign of any on yours either.

The text on your photo of the new one is appropriate... "Back up now" - back up the mast I go, yet again!
isn't there supposed to be a small nut on the shaft to keep the cupholder in place? I'm pretty sure there was one on the older model.

Neither nut nor circlip. There's not enough thread or shaft protruding to attach anything.
This is the shaft of my one that lost its cup holder. The thread does not go to the end of the shaft (so no nut) and there is no groove at the end of the shaft (so no circlip).

I thought there was a circlip so maybe just glue ?
You'd think so, but on mine that lost its cup holder there was no sign of any thread lock compound either. Held on with nothing more than hope!

As a cheeky aside - if anyone has an unused, or is removing, an MN100-2 dual display - I'm looking for one.

I have experienced the same problem over the last 18 months. I’m on my third ST unit. I originally suspected the Marina starling gang but the last anemometer lost its cups while mounted at home….. so retrieved.
Raymarine have also been good about my continuing struggles. However, I have lost trust in the ability of the spindle and the cups to stay together.
I will try locktite and test it at home again before it’s fitted on the mast head.

Thanks, I have taken down the T120 and there is the stainless threaded spindle where the cups used to be. I think I will replace the cups as they are only about £24 -£30 and the rest of the unit is new. A question: do the cups just screw on to the spindle? Does it need locktite or a tiny blob of epoxy to keep them on? How tight should they be screwed on?
The cups don't come with the little spindle they attach to. The design seems to have changed a number of years ago and it's in my honest opinion designed to come apart easily. Contact raymarine instead. I bought a replacement wireless mast unit a year ago and the cups were off before end of the year. My original aged unit still had the cups but was complete just worn with opaque solar panels. Raymarine gave ne a whole new unit and my new one with new cups. So while their product has the potential to fall apart their customer support was excellent bit was handled by cactus marine who were excellent too
