Lopolight disappoints

Lopolight is a Danish LED masthead light which makes great claims for low power consumption and longevity. As I always have to brave a trip to the top of the mast once a year to replace a lousy bulb (or usually persuade someone else) I thought a lamp with a 50,000 hour promise was a good deal.
I bought it a couple of years ago from Gaelforce for £250!!
It lasted about fifty hours. Dead. Connections checked, of course, but no joy. Emails to Gaelforce go unsanswered, so I tried the importer who also exists behind a wall of silence.
Is this my bad luck, or is this LED technology not as robust as they claim? Incidentally, its low power usage and brightness is impressive - when it works.

Deffinately not right, I would take the unit down and deliver it back to GF in person - don't leave without a refund or sealed replacement.

Just to cover yourself, it may be worth writing to them by recorded post to say that you do not apreciate being ignored.

The lights should and do last the life of the mast.

As a matter of interest, do you have the 'under 12m' or 'under 20m' version - and do you have an all-round white with it?

Just interested as I have been trying to find out from the manufacturers whether the 'anchor light' is suitable as a navigation light, but as yet have had no response. Presumably it is, but it makes no such claim on their website.

I can't find the right bit of paper, but I feel sure that the K-3766 qualifies as a stern/steaming light when shown with port and starboard.

Our Lopolights have been in service for about a year now with no problems. That would amount to several hundred hours of use.

We had the same problem last year with the >20. The light packed up in stages and I rang the supplier (Diverse Yachts of Port Hamble marina) who said we wer'nt the first (they had had 3 or 4) and to send it back. A new one came return of post and we fitted it in the spring so we hope the new one is better. As I remember they are guaranteed for 50,000 hrs or something! They now claim that they qualify as an accepted navigation light.

I also bought lopolight navlights and so far three have failed. Likewise I had no response from the company when I tried to claim under the guarantee.
