Burnham On Sea has a ring to it, but what about Deeping On Sea /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Anyone got a spare hill anywhere ? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
That would be most interesting as I could then have my boat parked no more than 300 yards from my house, a bit of a walk down the hill past Gays Lane.
The upside is that Essex Marina would have the freehold on a bit of seabed.
Hang on a minute. Is there an undetected conspiracy herewith which just happens to allow access into Bradwell H24 for 1.7m draft? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
i was down at wells today and whilst we were not talking about the North Sea swallowing up the area, what was discussed is that there are plans afoot to "plough" the entrance to wells, its all to do with the up and coming wind farms, aparently the plan is to make wells harbour acessable at all levels of tide, they are expanding the harbour to accomodate the construction barges.
Oooh, that could be good news..... it'd open up that part of the coast for fin keelers, as well as making the more northern ports like Hull more viable propositions for us Southern East Coasters.....

I do hope so, but the worry then is that the prices will start to go up too. If that happened it would probably make it more viable for me to stay on the Welland until ready to move to better waters.
Ill try to find out more about it when i go down in a few week(sailing i hope),i was told that there were plans to plough out the harbour entrance to allow the traffic acess at all tides. It was also pointed out that this would scour the harbour and in effect deepen the harbour, the wells authoritys have added new pontoons to accomodate the increased construction traffic, historically,Construction starts at the end of aprill and closes end of September, this was the "weather window" used by the oil rig construction crews,i dont know when all of this construction will start but ill keep you posted.

Interesting they should choose to do that rather than ship the components from, say, Lowestoft or Hull.
[/ QUOTE ]Reading the various industry and govrenment websites, I think the plan is to have a major base at Great Yarmouth, with a significant development of a new facility (in their own words - to create a national centre of excellence), but I guess smaller ports like Wells might be useful for general reprovisioning for the farms in the wash, rather than sending vessels all the way back Gt Yarmouth.....?
i believe that they have got the go ahead for an out harbour at Gt Yarmouth, dont hold your breath on that one though, when i lived in Gt Yarmouth some 25 years ago they were talking then about having the outher harbour built.
i got the impression that things were happening at wells.Im now looking for a cheap fiberglass tender to leave down there,so that i can use the bike to travel down to the boat as car parking can be fun.
Jock
the new RORO outer harbour at Yarmouth IS going ahead...cant find details at the moment...though there is a suggestion that the works will alter the sea bed as the silt/sand moves. they have already started filling in areas with boulders to form the harbour....i know cos i nearly crossed the insignificant yellow markers last year /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
there are two rusty old barges offshore with the hardcore being shifted.
As for Wells...that would be great...been to the town several times ....by car!
