Refitting my boat and am looking for a supplier of a (ideally rectangular) stainless sink unit (without a drainer) that can fit into a small worktop space of 250 mm wide by 350 mm deep.
Would be grateful for any help. A web search only turned up one 150mm wide.

Caravan Shops .... FOR ALL cabin bits !

The local Caravan Shop .... or Mail Order Camping ....

Try : http://www.hdleisure.com

Hants and Dorset Leisure Group ... I have no connection with them at all, other than having bought :

Hatch Stays .... on caravans they are window stays, same item, 1/2 the price
Wall lights, 12v .... again less than 1/2 price, same item
Sink / water taps and plumbing ... electric and manual
Bug lights / Hurricane Lamps, Colmans lamps etc. etc.

Basically anything for cabin can be found, and some of the tricks and ideas you get from some of the gear is amazing ..... campers seem to have some intriguing items available !!

Plus of course tent material that can be used for .... Lee-clothes, Dodgers, awnings, beach 'carpets', you name it .... you can find a use for it !!

Peter, I see you are based in W.Sussex - there is a company called "Penguin" based in Hayling Island, I'm afraid I don't have their number but I'm sure you can get it from Directory Enquiries. They specialise in what you are looking for and have hundreds to choose from..... I got a beaut from them at the boat show!

Re: Caravan Shops .... FOR ALL cabin bits !

Caravan shops don't sell Boat bits - so Chandlers are protected species !! We are only talking about Caravan bits being sold at inflated prices in Chandlers !!!!

Anyway - I have always been a scrooge and also grew up in a family with boats AND Caravans .... a trick I pulled for few years - ex-wife didn't like boats, wanted a C/van ... so I had compromise - 1 of each !!!!!

Stainless steel mixing bowl

I've seen an adaption using a large stainless steel mixing bowl, used for cooking or such like. Much cheaper than anything else, you can mount it in a bench, especially if it is a type with a flat rim. To drain, get a suitable sized hole cut in the bottom and fit a waste pipe fitting etc. Perhaps you can raid mum's kitchen cupboard.

The problem is ......

The problem with most "non-nautical" sinks and basins is that they are not deep enough and have sloping sides so that when the boat heels and lurches the water slops out..... A decent "boat" sink/wash-hand basin will have vertical sides and will be about eight inches (give or take) deep. I haven't checked but I would be surprised if you would find such a thing in a caravan supplies......
