Some people get a special oil for their boots. Is it worth it? I am pretty crap at rinsing them when I have been out and they have a permanant white, salt, tide line on them....
Having spent a small fortune on them and had a very happy 18 months with them so far how do I keep them happy?

I've had mine for 5 yrs and never done anything but rinsed them in fresh water. They were still perfect until a few months ago when I fully submerged them launching a trailer sailer - now the lining has disintegrated. Dear Mr Dubarry...

There's been a lot of discussion here about how good and non-stick Durbarry Deck shoes are. Well, I've got a (well battered) pair that are positively lethal on wet teak. Before I have them resoled, it occurs to me that Dubarry make a number of different types (names) of Deck Shoe. Does anyone know which is the best one? Or are they all the same?

I've had a pair for the last few year. Like you they always look rather stained with the salt water. I tend to use the dubarry waterproofer and conditioner about twice a year. Keeps them looking good.

Athough after wearing them bare feet one day I managed to get them stuck on my foot (good job there is a wooden spoon in the galley) Ihave managed to pull the inner lining out. Though it was a good idea to cut the lining and stick them down with evo-stick...... Bad move they leak like a sive now.....

I'm a fan of the Henri Lloyd Navigator boots and shoes now, Hopefully santa went to port solent at the weekend to buy me a pair.

You lot have all either got more money than sense or have/sail seriously wet boats! My pair of Aigle rubber shorties are now 5 years old and still perfect at less than £20 per pair. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Don't know about Navigator boots but my HL decks soak my feet with a little light rain in the high street! Plus, the soles are made from super slip material. Maybe they changed since? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Dubbin is what you want. Last pair I got from the factory I had a word with a chap in there. He was the one that told me on the Q.T. Rinse them off. Let them dry and they give them a dose of dubbin. It doesn't dry like polish but soaks into the leather and feeds it. Had one of my pairs 7 years now and they're still going strong. Dubbins no good on the nubuck/suede ones tho. For them you need a good spray water proofer.

Dubbin is not recommended by most leather climbing and hillwalking boot manufacturers anymore, and personally agree, having dubbin'd boots in the early years. They now recommend Nikwax and the like - there are Nikwax products to take care of pure leather through to nubuck, far better.

Mine are now 3 years old and still going strong with no care at all apart from the occasional hose down when I'm flushing my outboard. They seem fairly indestructable as long as you only wear them for sailing and not too much shore walking.

This type of boot is all about comfort Robin- if you're prone to cold feet in normal rubber wellies, then these boots put a smile on your face- there's something beautifully warm and impermeable about salopettes and a pair of Duabarrys and the weather has to be fairly tropical before they come off.

Best wishes to everyone.
