Yup, my gearbox! :):):):):):)

Volvopaul of this parish has done a real first class job, gearbox stripped and re-built with new seals, and he even painted it for me. Paul also had output shaft flange turned and powder coated so now looking really good and best of all ..........leak free!

Paul even kindly came out for a sea trial with me to ensure all OK.... believe it or not my little tug boat recorded a new top speed record of 26.4knots... amazing what a clean bum can do!! :)

Now back at Mercury and I spent a very happy few hours cleaning all the boat yard dust off the topsides... now she's ready for the season;

mmmmm nice and shiny and back where she belongs.

good question, FYI full fuel tank, empty water tanks.... just as all boats should have when on the hard. (sorry, not obvious but boat only re-launched yesterday straight after gearbox being re-fitted)

On the whole my Hardy has proved pretty economical (for a Mobo!) at around 2.9MPG, but then that's single engine shaft drive for you.

...perhaps you didn't see Volvopaul's tale of his fathers boat drinking 80 gallons of the earth's finest traveling from Hythe to Weymouth.... (and that's Hythe, Southampton!)...

(Oh, and I should add that my 2.9mpg is at a respectable 17knot cruising speed)

Good to see your back in one piece, now that it's clean down there get a bit of paint on the rusty bits, I do not see any r&d, is she smooth now? Did you redo the prop?

Good to hear all that Firefly. Nice pics, and 26 kts, blimey! Volvopaul certainly is the man in these matters; gearbox will now last 100years

Permission to be boring, but are those black thin wires with yellow crimp terminals the bonding straps for the brushes that rub on the propshaft? If yes, I would replace them with MUCH thicker. It wouldn't take much for those wires, in that location, to make a bad connection, and then the whole glavanic protection thing fails. With your "galvanic history" I think that might be important. You want some seriously thick cable there, stuff that looks like it'll take 100amps or similar
