Thinking of spending a couple of weeks in Cornwall (like, I’m sure, many others are!)

Plan is for GF to drive down and meet me in Falmouth / Fowey, leaving the car somewhere for 10 days or so
whilst we go off. I know MDL charge £10 a day locally in the Solent. I’ll do some calling round yards and marinas, but just thought I’d see if anyone here knows of potential places

Parking is at a premium in those areas. Main car parks charge about £6 a day. There's a park & ride at Ponsharden, outside Falmouth, but it looks as if details of charges are a state secret.

Dont forget to check out the G7 parking restrictions that have come into force in Falmouth.
Roads are expected to be extremely busy especially around National Maritime Museum Cornwall so please plan ahead to minimise disruptions. Both Grove Place and Maritime car parks will be closed between Thursday 27 May and Saturday 19 June. • Campbeltown Way will be closed to traffic between Thursday 27 May and Saturday 19 June. • The car park in Church Street will be closed for pay and display between Thursday 10 June and Sunday 13 June.

I don’t think that overnight stays are allowed at Ponsharden. However, it’s just been taken over by the Maritime Museum so a call to them might yield some info. Generally parking in Falmouth is difficult and becoming pretty impossible in some areas.

You might have a think about Plymouth instead. Due to a quirk of geography you can have free parking within a stones throw of the city centre and within a minutes walk of a good marina at Plymouth Yacht Haven.
It will involve your GF in less driving and no aggravation in going into Cornwall. It's easy to get to and you do not need to go into the city.

If you require more secure parking and perhaps to book ahead, the Mount Batten Watersports Centre nearby has a CCTV park or the marina itself would no doubt oblige.
It's a short ferry ride into Plymouth and an afternoons sail to Fowey.

I was just wondering about Plymouth. Sounds like it may be a better bet. Another thought occurred about insurance too. May need to consider that …..

I believe it's locked after 9pm. What happens to cars still there? I guess they stay overnight.
It is locked but they have security patrols overnight. Not sure about what will happen but suspect it might involve either a yellow boot or a fine. They have replaced the old system with ANPR based ticketing, so beware!

Hmmm, they're keen to encourage visitors, I imagine?

Probably best to get a one-way hire a car to get from home carrying all the kit and provisions required, and return it to the local centre. Some hire companies will happily deliver and collect the car. One day's hire could be cheaper than a week's parking, depending on local parking charges, and you'll not have the worry of leaving your car in a strange place.

There is a fantastic train ride to Falmouth, change at Truro.

Depends where you're starting from. Going the other way, I had to leave the boat in Fowey for a couple of weeks and got the train back to London. Standing room only most of the way.

You mean it's become more restricted.
That's not been our experience. You book a train and enjoy the ride without the crush.

I'd still like to know if I can get the 1903 Pullman Service from London and enjoy a meal as a standard class passenger now the new rolling stock is being used.

Could try Ponsharden boatyard, 50 yards away, most things get stored there, have you considered Truro station, they have long stay parking, catch train to Falmouth.

Falmouth is very large, plenty of parking in side streets. Or there is the whole region towards Mylor.

I do comment Plymouth Yacht Haven at Mountbatten if you must use marinas (even though its in Devon), with 2 very nice pubs in Turnchapel to refresh you as you start your exploring.

There are more harbours and anchorages between plymouth area and falmouth area, than beyond falmouth, and the Lizard can deflect the worst of the weather.
