Bit of a rant, but so it goes.

In marinas with long pontoons rather than finger berths, what's the obsession with mooring right in the middle of the gap?
I get that it is easier to park there, but surely then you shift along, either by engine power or on the lines?

So often I see a big gap with a small boat in the middle. Obviously if a neighbour leaves then you're stuck in no man's land, but is a bit of common courtesy too much to ask for?

Usually it's those that park up inconsiderately are the first to complain about others' mooring arrangements too.

It doesn’t happen very often to me but it can be annoying. I have sometimes assisted in moving a boat along a pontoon to make more space and I think that this should be acceptable. There is always the possibility that a boat was properly moored close to other boats which have left while the first boat’s owner was ashore somewhere, though inconsiderate parking is probably more likely.

Conversely, especially in pandemics, leaving as much space between as possible makes sense. Only when no room go close.

On the other hand at St Benet's Abbey on the Broads last Autumn I did convince a typical mobo that they should move up a bit so an engineless wherry could park there...IMG20210723110805(50%0.jpg

Some are just too scared to park near to another boat. It is odd how those who moor most of the time, find marina parking so alien. But then I find that hook at the bow rather a useless object, so I should not criticize .

It's funny, I have the opposite rant when in Tesco's and I park at the very back where it's completely empty only to find some git parked right next to me when I return.
That is one of my wife's pet rants. She has been unwell for the past 6 months so I have been going with her to push the trolley & lift the bags. I deliberately park across 2 bays & it really annoys her. She says it is embarrassing. I say " you can open the door can't you" To which she has no reply. The car park is usually only 20% full at the time we go in the morning.
I hate filling in forms where one is expected to put a letter in each box. I tend to write across the boxes where I think I can get away with it. I left primary school a long time ago but I can still recall exercise books with squares.

Those boxes are there for a specific reason - it allows a handwritten form to be machine read because the letters or figures are in a specific place.

What a annoys me is people talking about 'parking' boats.

Do they, I wonder, berth their cars in Tesco carparks?
In that case I will take pleasure in continuing to annoy you I’m afraid. It’s one of those tired jokes, like referring to the bow as the pointed end, that some of us have difficulty in shedding.

Yes! I know what you mean. Nothing like a jobsworth to create a silly rule for everyone to blindly follow.
Ooh, there are numerous categories of those! I recollect being annoyed, in my brief period in The Cubs, of having to play "Simon Says" and finding it utterly pointless! Then there are rituals which made sense once-upon-a-time, but have now been outdated...

Our club pontoon was extended by about 25 metres.

You'd think you could now fit another 2 x 10 metre boats on it instead of the usual 3 boats maximum.

Nope, there's still only room for 3 boats, first boat leaves a 20 ft gap from end of pontoon, tantalising too short a space for most these days, same at the other end and then someone in the middle with 25 ft spare on both ends.

I pulled in the other day about 8ft away from another boat, there was much whinging from the other boat in zero knots of wind about getting off the pontoon.
