I have been looking for a modern built long keel yacht with a modern style of interior. Around 36 to 40 foot. Only ones I can find ar Tradewinds circa 1980's so not so up to date inside. Any ideas????

>long keel modern interior

I'm not sure what you mean by modern. The Saltram interior is typical of interiors on qaulity boats since the 80's and probably before. We started sailing keel boats in the late seventies and I don't think interiors have changed much over the years except for the large aft cabins in AWB's and and (to me) some horrible plastic interiors rather than teak. I've not seen a long keeler with a wide transom but maybe there are some.

Agree with the list of boats above.

I prefer white painted interiors with not much varnished wood. Large expanses of varnished ply strike me as a bit gloomy and depressing; like living in a cigar box.

Definitely agree with that, having said that its pretty easy to paint over large flat panels so wouldn't put me off buying a boat.

Don't worry about overtaking jellyfish. Good long-keelers such as the Rustler are much quicker than fin-keeler drivers suspect. What's more, in a decent blow their easy motion and straight running mean that they keep going when many "faster" boats are thinking about heading for harbour. Sure, you can't pack as many people in as you can into a wide-arsed modern boat, but practical stowage for passage-making is capacious.

So you want a nice light interior? That's more to do with how its finished than when its built for example the Tradewind 35 I have seen examples with teak interior and found then very dark and dingy but there are some with oak interiors that are lovely and bright inside and give that modern impression.

You could always have one built. You can get a 35 built to order or even a bigger 44.

Island packet are long keel but (very) modern interior, not to my liking but look we'll built

Our twelve year old Island Packet is often mistaken for a new boat. The standard of interior joinery stands comparison with just about anything. The finish is oiled teak. It takes First Mate two days to clean and oil it................

An australian built freya 39 from 1995. I like the dark interiors and restful on the eyes. With good led lighting no boat needs to be gloomy.P1020693.jpg
