From what I've read, a few of them are either residential, or quite lax with the rules. Though, I'm sure someone who knows what they're talking about will reply!
Forumite Kristal is your man for info on Limehouse. He was certainly living aboard there early this year in a smallish boat and, in answer to one of Cardo's questions elsewhere, was obtaining wireless broadband via a means best kept to PM's /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Not officially. But I was living in Limehouse last winter, South Dock the winter before. Limehouse is tricky to get a place (they claim a 7 year waiting list, tho' it can be jumped if you are persuasive). South Dock would be your best bet. St Kats is definitely out. Don't know about Gallion's Reach.
I agree offically not but I stayed for a very long time in St Kats and there was no problem ! It is up to you not to break any of the marinas rules ! But I had a great time including parting and having lots of guests !

It's a 7 year waiting list for the Limehouse marina? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Is that for a longterm berth?
What about the other marinas, such as South Dock? Is the waiting list quite so expansive for them, too? Might be worth putting my name down now, may get a berth by the time I get a boat /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Currently have boat on winter mooring in Limehouse. Been on permanent berth list for about 4 years. When the CA ran the place a number of permanent berths were granted just before handover byut obviously didn’t drink with the right people and wasn’t offered one.
They handed back management of the marina to British Waterways Marinas ltd some time ago, who seem to getting their act together. Was no impressed at first, but think there was a great deal of cvonfusion at handover and no one was able/willing to make decisions. That is getting better now as the manager finds her feet and confidence.
BWML have big plans for liveaboard pontoons at Limehouse and have a marketing deal with a boat builder -- about £220 grand will get you mooring and large aluminium barge thing. Not sure this is a good thing as will really [--word removed--] up waiting lists!
This autumn BWML also offered us permanent mooring at Poplar, which we have accepted.
Space in London is pretty tight – St Kats tolerate liveaboards if you keep head down pay bills and have pretty boat, and the place is never full – some people have shown up for a week and stayed for months. We spent the summer there – security is dire.
Also spent time at South Dock. Can be picky about liveaboards and space is tight – half the boats in there are so old they can’t be moved for fear of falling apart. They told us they were full this summer – probably cause they suspected we liveaboard last summer there.
Not tried Galions – They don’t have many bigger pontoons they said. Although a few years back they had a spot we could have taken. Bit off the beaten track and right under the runway of city airport.
Have to say when we took the boat up here I was bloody naïve and very lucky to always manage to squeeze in. Particularly as boat is not pretty like Kristal for example.
Friends looking for winter berths have been told no by Limehouse and Poplar, to get out by South Dock and no luck at Galions either so best of luck
