Just been invited to 15 days of hard work for a paltry amount of money. Does anyone know of a place to stay to make this feasible (at a very small daily rate for B&B) without such travel costs as to make it totally silly?

I could do with a place to drop for 2 nights towards the end of the show doesnt matter if its a hotel as long as I can keep costs down to around £90 per night.

£90/night would blow 2.5 days worth of available cash by the time lunch and evening meal has been included!

Ok cheaper would be better but dont want to be too far away plus must have some kind of night life where alcoholl can be consumed and an evening of merryment partaken.

This link may be worth a look at. Less than £30 a night at the Barking Hotel and even cheaper at Thurrock.
Barking's your best bet for Excel.

Have to be Barking to go to Excel??? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Are you a CA member?

you just might get a cabin, there less than £30/night. Otherwise try this place that might find you something. Just put in the postcode and it will come up with list of places within a 10 mile radius.

How far are you prepared to commute? We stayed in Finsbury Park on our Epic UK Tour this year. About 3 minutes walk to the underground, buses stopped outside the door. Free car parking. Hotel was ok, nothing tremedous, but clean, modern, TV and shower. Breakfast was continental.

The website says £33.00 per night, but I am sure my mum and Mother in law paid less for their single rooms. Might be worth ringing them, they might give you a special for a 2 week block.

Look forward to meeting you on the stand, about time that outfit had someone who knows their stuff at the boat show. Though, does this mean you are going to have to take on the guise of a sleezy salesman and bathe in aramis before arriving each morning. Please don't forget to patronise me when I come to the stand and show contempt when I ask about your products.

Then you will fit right in /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Not sure I am going to be able to be there at all yet until I have spoken to them. Earlier this evening had a phone call ref a job I have applied for, with news that my name was going forward, and that if I made it through the next round, would have an interview in 1st week in Jan - This obviously has rather more importance than 2 weeks at the show!

Join the CA

In itself a good idea, but I guess you'll have to book a few years in advance for the boat show.

Just another irrelevant footnote.

I wish you very good luck with that Talbot.

My daughter has just received the same offer, so if you come up with something I would appreciate it you could let me know. I would prefer not to send her to big city to have to sort herself out.

offer was £60/day paid at the end of the period tax was taken off at standard rate , therefore left with £48/day B&B £34, lunch + snacks £6, Evening meal £10, transport to/fm B&B £5 + transport to/B&B at start and to home at end £25

deficit £130

so 15 days of working my behind off was going to cost me at least £130 for the priveledge - no thank you.
