London a No-Go zone?

There's always space, but its a bit of a walk to the DLR (10-15 mins) and its in the middle of nowhere.

Its cheaper than the central london places too and access is better, but be careful, it states HW+/-5, but last time we were there the gates were being repaired and it was actually HW+/-3, so check that.

The nearest Tesco I think is about 20 mins away if I recall correctly, along with a load of other shops, although there may be a few tiny shops closer.

They don't have petrol and I can't recall if they had diesel last time.

As a cheap alternative its not bad, but not exactly Central London!

Update on South Dock facilities to be ready for 2014 cruising season:
Oct 13-Feb 14. All marina decks replaced on walkways.
Oct 13—Feb 14. All marina electrics and plumbing replaced.
Dec 12/Jan13. New floating toilet block installed.

Should improve the place no end.

Just got back from doing a job in Limehouse, loads of room in there at the moment, I have to say I always find them accommodating whether boating or working, including the SA guy and they always let me park in the lock area. South Dock (where my workshop and offices are) is undergoing improvements, the comms to central London are great, take the Thames Clipper from the marina to all the tourist areas. Facilities are basic but improving and the recent addition of a Tesco Metro right outside the main basin has made provisioning easy. The staff are second to none and there are good onsite facilities for emergency repairs etc. Oh, and the resident berth holders are very friendly and helpful.

I concur. We are, however talking about 2014....

The new moorings in Limehouse are commercial only, and originally were meant to be removed after the Olympics. No doubt BWML are trying to change that, and someone told me just yesterday they have started to fill them. Not sure if they have got a planning change through or what.

I know many people who are well unhappy with Emar, totally believe everything they have told me about him and what he has said to them. Although in my frequent dealings with him he has always been fine.

Lovely Robyn who is normally managing things is on long-term leave, and has been for some months now, no return date last time I enquired.

Sanctimonious Jeremy, has a boat at Limehouse, hence the 'not going far away' comment at a guess.

BWML management further up the chain still rude, incompetent and bulling.

South Dock, as has been mentioned much improved, and getting better all the time, staff great.

Gallions - dump, but not been there for ages.

Who is the little chap who seemed to be in charge of berthing & the lock about 3 yrs ago.
We take a mid ships spring due to our shape, once secured we can control the boat with engine. This is my lock & i want stern line first. ****

Any lock keeper who asks me for a Stern line first will get it around his neck and get towed upstream as fast as possible.

Non tidal Thames lockies are far nicer than the London riffraff :p

This does make you wonder why the PLA/enterprising individual wont fork out and install some proper along side moorings somewhere in London for leisure boats.

A 12hr max time limit and car park style pay and display machine could be a nice earner for them!!

@Sailorman: Which particular tawt are you referring to!?

CJL. Imperial Wharf was built only about three years ago, yet is now full of permanent moorers.

Thats the way things will go: as property gets more and more expensive, the value of full time moorings becomes greater, and it simply pays better to have 365 day a year custom.

Oh I agree 100% but shouldn't the PLA have a duty to provide proper visitor moorings in London for short stays?? Its kinda underused bit of waterway otherwise! Somehow I suspect that Paris and similar cities have some decent short term public moorings.

Perhaps the PLA should become part of TfL then they have to respond to users needs?? :D

The barge traffic at HW would make pontoons on the tidal river untenable

It's do-able with fenders and decent springs though and now there is a speed limit in place it's much better as well.
