scrounging again i know..

but iv'e been offered a gearbox that might (or might not) fit the boat, it's cheap enough to have a try out, with the exception that carriage will topple the meagre budget.

does anyone regularly or plan to travel from North yorkshire to anywhere near dorset in the next month?

if so could they drop me a Pm.

cheers, steve.

I believe Amtrak http://www.amtrak.co.uk/ do a good deal on delivering heavy or bulky items, may be worth getting a quote

Barry, that's knockout. Look, I don't want to be a pain...but there's a terrific butchers about 8 miles from there and as you're passing do you think you could pick up a couple of pounds of black pudding? Actually you could kill two birds with one stone as it happens. As you make your way back to the motorway there is a really nice, old fashioned hardware shop and they do the exact size of left-handed sproggetts...........

welcome to the forum, not been here long have you?

appreciate that you're having a little joke, but the people here abouts (me included) will be more than willing to help anyone else out if at all possible.

and you never know when or where that will be.

anyway, welcome to the forum, and hope you get as much out of it as the rest of us. best wishes, steve.

Thank you for your welcome Steve, but why do I get the impression that I'm being told off?
You are right that I haven't been here long, just a couple of months. You are also right that I was having a little joke but I believe that doing so is allowed.
I am very aware that most people are prepared to help others and I also would be very happy to do just that.
I think I should be charitable and put your mail down to you forgetting to take your chill pill.
Take it easy.

Hi Jon. No big prob. P'rhaps one got off on the wrong foot. Welcome to the forum. Sorry if you've been here already and I've missed you. Got your tongue in cheek response, and although a bit dry, I still found it amusing. I am not too far away from you, and perhaps sometime we could get together. Steve and a bunch of others are perhaps the practical forum get togetherites, and you are more than welcome to join in if you feel so inclined. If a meet comes up that you are interested in, which by the way means bullshit 'n serious booze, you are more than welcome, but it may mean a jaunt, in which case you are more than welcome to travel with us when the time is right, if that fits in. :0)

His post was amusing, though should perhaps meet a few people first.

It's a difficult forum to join, because there's a lot of jousting. However, most regular posters here actually know each other, and new members are taking pokes at people they don't know.

There is also a well respected rule of not having a pop at new members, which makes things difficult when new members pop first ;)

Hi George,
Thanks for that.
Tell me though, if I do go out with you and the others, will I have to sit in a corner and not speak until spoken to?
Seriously though, the best part of all this is that Aztec and I actually corresponded by email about two months ago. (see my post "Is this allowed?")
Mind you, one can't expect people, especially regulars, to check out everyone they decide to slap on the wrist.
Look forward to seeing you at some point.
Regards,
JonD

Naw, that's rubbish. We last a bit longer than 3 hours. It took Col until 2 in the morning before he got into that state. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

thanks for your reply, i do appologise for not getting back to you, but as you can see even the simplest request can be blown out of all proportions sometimes.

the situation was that i have an engine, and needed a gearbox, but was unsure about what could be made to fit. i'm willing to pay a small (very small) price for something which i'm prepared to throw away if it doesn't work.. problem being that to incurr more cost than the part is costing would kill the "taking a chance" bit stone dead, and i would look in other directions.

the project on the whole is a typically low budget one, and having no time limit on it, i can afford to wait untill the right part comes along at the right price.

thanks for the information, i'll keep a record of the web address for the future. but unfortunately on this occasion even a low cost carrier will kill this plan. it's always possible that as people travel about (as i do sometimes) someone might be passing and kind enough to do me a favour, one that will be repaid at some point. as i said there's no time limit for the project, so i can wait for as long as it takes.

like wise if someone wanted a forumite to go look/collect something down this way i'd be more than willing to oblige.

thanks again for you reply, regards, steve.
