I would thing any record is pretty much meaningless - signatures can't be verified and what if you sail your own boat and are the skipper, who do you get to sign it then?

There is a section in the RYA 'personal' log book, for self 'certifying' experience & acceptable for YM qualifying.

You sign it yourself. As you say, the personal log isn't practically verifiable. I did try to emphasise that I didn't know if signatures counted for anything whilst raising it as a feature of the RYA log book that an electronic format doesn't trivially support.
