Loctite 243 v Volvo Thread Sealant

For sealing most threads we use Loctite 577. This works exceedingly well on fridge systems hot and cold side to 30 Bar and 120oC. I have found it also excellent with diesel and oil. It does make your fingers smell a bit though.

243 will seal but its primary purpose is as a medium strength thread locker. 577 will provide a light locking function.

577 is also good for refreshing tired gaskets and especially well squeezed O rings.

Specifically it is for the the locking screws on the Volvo 2 blade folding prop. I will try and get some Loctite 5452 although it's 'currently unavailable' on Amazon and doesn't appear to be that easy to get hold of elsewhere.

I think you have the wrong VP part number. 1161056 is a sealant for hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

The correct part number is 1161053, which is a locking fluid and is equivalent to the readily available Loctite 242

I'd imagine the Loctite 243 which you first mentioned would also be suitable.

See the parts list at https://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-c343-parts-for-2-blade-folding-propeller.aspx

Also the loctite data sheets for 242 and 243

Thanks Vic, that is really helpful particularly as I have already bought 243 for the anodes. The Volvo S drive Installation manual definitely says 1161056.
