Well I'm pleased it made 100; I was worried that I'd be accused of "blogging" (whatever that is) because this was such a busy thread. I thought I'd asked an easy question! Obviously not.

A good friend (who is also a Naval Architect) has a Brunton on his boat and he too claims it performs very well. He also says he wouldn'y buy another as the bearings are too exposed and prone to dirt and marine growth. (I have never used one so don't shoot the messenger if he is wrong in this). The other disadvantages are the price and the fact that if you go off blue water sailing, spares are perhaps not as easily obtained. I was going to go to a feathering type prop (like a max prop) as they are very good in astern and ahead, and are very little more drag than a folding prop, and the popular ones seem to have a world wide back-up.
