I am going to make a new inventory spreadsheet but first...

1. does anyone else have a decent one before i reinvent the wheel
2. if not does anyone know how to us MS Excel and Apple Numbers well enough to make some macro / equations work?

This inventory system is more to find what item is where rather than how many of a certain item we have. So I have broken the boat into areas and then every locker has a number. If the lock has different boxes inside then they are given letters. I.e. Forecabin, Locker 1, Box A.

I think want to assign an item to a specific area and then all the items will be listed alphabetically on a separate list so I can either see what is in a specific locker or find a specific item.

Thoughts?

I have given this subject some thought and even blogged about it

the following link will be of no help at all to you

Have a look here http://www.svsarah.com/Sailing/ewBoatRecords.htm for a very comprehensive Excel Inventory Program.

It does everything you can possibly want and probably quite a bit that you will never use, only downside is that it is a bit OTT if you only want a simple Inventory spreadsheet, however the documentation is very good so you should be able to get set up fairly quickly if you are reasonably competent with Excel.

Great idea. I currently just have a comprehensive single list under sub headings of each storage area. I tape the sub headings into each storage area as well. Especially useful for long term ( rarely seen)items at back of lockers. If unsure I just run my eye down the comprehensive list.
