A chum is thinking of having Halls and son at Walton do some stainless work. Anyone know more about them and their work?

They’ve done a couple of small things for me. Very obliging. They misunderstood one of my drawings (can’t blame them) and redid the piece FOC.
I believe they do steelwork for HMS Belfast if you need anything that big.

Satisfied customer here! Trevor came to do a small job on Capricious (drilling a hole in the stainless stem-head fitting that was beyond my tools and skills) and charged far less than he could have. They are good value for slipping and so on. Very old-established firm; I think they're on the 4th generation of Halls! Arthur Ransome alert - I suspect that Halls is the boatyard that John took Swallow's rudder to to get the pintle straightened. It's in the right place!

The only snag is that the channel to Halls dries and is somewhat tortuous. I took someone who'd done it before when I went there, and Trevor piloted me out again! For my draft of 1.6 m, access is only at high water with a very small margin either side - an hour or less.

Strongly recommend them For my Cornish Crabber Mk1 I got them to do a curved A frame - it's a work of art! Also just a fascinating area to look round. Had a guided tour on Monday of Bedwells, the yard next to them & the yacht club, on their covered slipways four wooden boats being worked on, planks, new stem, etc etc.

Thanks very much all. Access shouldn't be a problem as boat is a lift keel Beneteau and anyway he loves creeping about in thin water

I'm on a Halls mooring in the season and over winter in their yard. I can't recomend them highly enough and steelwork is becoming a large part of their work. I would recomend giving them some time to do a job as they get very busy. The WFYC pond is next door for a cheap visit afloat (newly extended so lots of space at present) and Titchmarsh Marina is only round the corner.

Halls and the yard next to them Bedwells are both excellent to deal with. Great boat enthusiaists at both places and they know their stuff and charge fair prices. Halls build steel boats from scratch so they definitely know what they are doing.

Used to be their everyday as was their postie for some years lol. When the tide was up used to cycle through the rising water to get to the yacht club. Haven't been down their form a while now as now deliver to all the houses & farms around the backwaters, it's all being redeveloped behind them now so the look will change a bit unfortunately.
