Living aboard in Cornwall

I'm looking into buying a narrowboat / houseboat and mooring it in Cornwall (Falmouth area) and living on it.

I'll second the reservations about narrow boats. I read an article about someone who fitted out a narrow boat in a mud berth up the Tamar but getting it there via tidal waters is dicey. I went down the tidal Severn on a NB and had to take shelter when the wind got up to F3. Going out of a harbour onto the open sea is pretty much a complete nono. As for other types of houseboat, probably best to look for the berth before you get a boat. You might find the Truro River thread on Scuttlebutt interesting.

If you haven't lived aboard before, have a think about issues like water, electricity and sanitation and talk to a few people who are doing it before making the leap.

You will see ads for really big boats at giveaway prices - just consider why they are so cheap!

Gweek from too. Getting up there can take planning, but Gweek Quay yard seems like a great place. My mum lives a little further out on the lizard.

Check out Mylor bridge too.

If you aren't limited to Cornwall, Exeter, either the city badinage or turf locks are a good place to get some dork done. Lots of places on the Tamar too.
