Littlehampton ebb tide - pretty good lick I reckon

The Turkish restaurant in LittleHampton is something else. The loos are incredible. The food isn't bad either. Only downside is they sometimes have live music and it is usually deafening.

Nice to see Dylan posting again after so long. Has he forgiven us, do you think?

Points made by others about dates noted, however many thanks for nudging me to have another look at his youtube channel. He can be an irritating old _________ but a pleasant evening watching some of his more recent efforts.

A sometimes irritating, sometimes charming old salt, whose soul was drawn to the sea. Not of the same means as many on here and shame on us for driving him away.

His choice as with all others if he wants to post on here or not so I'm not sure I agree with your sentiment, but I've really enjoyed watching his season 7, took me back to sailing with my late father (with whom he appears to share many views) over the same waters.

I come onto this forum maybe once every six months. This was an interesting thread as I live in Billingshurst and visited the pub mentioned earlier BUT every time I come on here Dylan seems to be mentioned... this is an old thread as already mentioned. Hopefully by now he has got a paying job and moved on with his life... Here we go another 20 pages on Dylan, shame he doesn,t get paid for the knitting circle talking about him

Actually I feel it's a case of ' have we forgiven him ? ' for making out to be a penniless sailor in a little boat, then turning out to be quite well off and essentially asking for funding for a never ending family holiday in his second Centaur; I left him a couple of books on Chichester and Emsworth in his cockpit, didn't get to meet him when around here but shortly afterwards he had a public go at me for using a light, efficient 100:1 two stroke auxilliary, he seemed to think it was like an early Seagull engine leaving an oil slick.

As for the tide at Littlehampton, I know someone who had an old plywood mobo cabin cruiser with an outrageously huge old outboard; charts were a mystery to him so hit a sandbank at lowish water and just managed to power in against the ebb in a sinking state - as he admits now, the only thing which saved them and kept the transom partially attached was the grp sheathing :ambivalence:

Hello all , just been reading all your article , I live in Littlehampton and was a coastguard here for 17 years , I believe that the River Arun is now the fasters tidal river since the rest now have locks or dams . Littlehampton can be difficult at times , but most of the time its safe , one just need to look at the tide tables and make sure you have plenty of water and there's no strong easterly wind , and if you stay towards the East side of the river you will be clear of the shingle bank , were most dogs end up if the tide is right . As for sand we only have lovely sandy beaches when the tide is low I'm sorry to say . East Head is lovely , but car park charges are very high and getting there and getting out can be like The M25 Car park . Littlehampton has been modernised along the River in the last few years and is a lovely place for a walk and there are plenty of food eateries . and world class fish and chips shops. so look forward to seeing you 1 to 2 hour before high tide heading into Littlehampton . ill make sure I wave lol .

Hi Baz002, another LA resident. I'm at AYC. I presume you're still actively sailing?

We popped in there for a couple of days during our holiday this year, harbourmaster couldn't have made us more welcome, enjoyed the beaches and town.

Hello Mog
Not been to AYC for some time now , used to pop in there when on Patrol CG Duty . No longer sailing as the vessel has been sold , but still enjoy a walk along the river and fish and chips . maybe we will bump into each other one day . Regards Baz

I go down to Fred's fish bar once a week with my biking mates, there are two huge MOBO's moored here that are in a hell of a state, they just look abandoned, one had a fire on board recently apparently, vandals maybe!

The fire was arson as well as the windows definitely vandalised, making the eyesore even worse. I recently saw one bring towed back to her berth by the harbour board's boat, so presumably they keep paying the bills. My guess is they're owned by a commune of some sort. I wouldn't mind so much if they kept them presentable, given that that area is a focus for visitors.

would really like to get my boat round to Littlehampton and moor my boat on the pontoon outside that red brick block of flats - it's where it was built in 1951 at the ARC Marine boatyard which was there.

We like Littlehampton-visited twice last year. Stayed about five days each time. Took the bus to Arundel and spent a day there poking about. We also entertained friends and relations who, living on the wrong side of London, we rarely get to see.

Going to meet up with an old Speedway chum next year, he lives at Shoreham and Littlehampton is an easy journey for him.

Its a great destination with helpful Harbour staff.
