Little things.....great result!

Problem....heavy stainless steel radar arch, difficult to put up and down. Cant be left down cos gets in way and too high for several bridges including entrance to marina. Puzzled long time...shorten it, chuck it, sell it and get a lighter one made....decisions, decisions.......

Solution....two little gas-struts as per the piccy. Amazingly strong and hold arch up in position with upwards pressure keeping it there. Light downwards pull and it gently comes down...let go and it takes itself up again....brilliant! All 316 stainless, less than £200 and a doddle to fit with the help of barryh (thanks baz).

No serious offers and cost of replacement in lighter design was going to be ridiculous. If did away with it altogether would have needed to fit mast to carry steaming light etc.
Hadnt originally thought of gas struts because I really didnt realise just how much load they could handle. Found firm on the web called British Gas Springs (Alrose) and their tech guy was very helpful helped me sort out loadings etc and they were delivered ready to fit in less than a week. Very elegant solution imho and easy for me to handle solo. Well pleased.
